Brothers once again take on Cape Epic to ride for the Tygerberg Hospital Breast Clinic
Pink Lady® apples and Tru-Cape are once again co-sponsoring two mountain bikers to ride the Cape Epic as part of their fundraising initiative, the Tygerberg Hospital Breast Clinic Transport Fund. Pink Lady® and Tru-Cape have sponsored the race entry and cycling gear for Sakkie Hanekom and Hannes Hanekom. In addition, Pink Lady® apples have agreed to sponsor the team R8 per km ridden, totaling R6 400 for the grueling 800km race. As an added incentive, if the Hanekom brothers place within the top 40, Pink Lady® apples will increase the total donation to R10 000.
This will be the sixth year that Pink Lady® apples have provided amazing financial support to the Tygerberg Hospital Breast Clinic Transport fund, and this is the third year that Pink Lady® apples and Tru-Cape have teamed up to sponsor riders in the Cape Epic for the Tygerberg Hospital Breast Clinic Transport Fund.
The fund helps those who cannot afford the cost of transport to and from the clinic with the necessary financial assistance for them to get to all their treatments regularly. Says Professor Apffelstaedt – Head of the Tygerberg Hospital Breast Clinic, “As a result of generous donations we have been able to cover transport costs for hundreds of patients and will continue to serve the patients that need the additional support. We are grateful for the continued support from Pink Lady® apples and Tru-Cape.”
“I’m very excited to be back in the saddle alongside my brother, for our charity and sponsors (Tru-Cape & Pink Lady®). Through their tireless fundraising, Pink Lady® apples add so much value to the lives of people in need that it’s impossible not to be proud to be associated with them!” Says Sakkie Hanekom. “We will give it everything we’ve got from the start to the last finish line at Meerendal. We are fueled by the thought that with every pedal stroke and with your help and support, we will be helping someone less fortunate than ourselves to get the necessary transport to the treatment they so desperately need”, concludes Hanekom.
