The genetic counselling forms part of the regular patient screenings during consultations

The patient will be asked if there have been any known cases of breast, ovarian or other related cancers in her family. If the doctor feels it appropriate, testing will be discussed with the patient to provide her with all the information and relevant implications thereof. This allows the patient to take her time and make an informed decision about whether she wishes to proceed with the testing. In some cases, a follow-up consultation may be required.

The genetic counselling forms part of the regular patient screenings during consultations and is at no additional cost if the patient is undergoing imaging or a follow-up appointment. However, if patients schedule an appointment purely for genetic counselling (as is the case for many family members of a known gene mutation carrier), the standard consultation fee will apply.
